A Windy Day
On that windy day
I went to fly my kite
My mum said it was too windy
But I said the weather was just right
Walking to the park
The clouds covered the sun
Then the rain started
And the people began to run
The trees bent and thrashed
As the wind became stronger
And as I got to the park
I couldn’t wait any longer
I lifted my kite
And looked up to the sky
I threw it right up
And it started to fly
I grabbed onto the reel
And held it as tight as I could
Steering the kite
Like dad had told me I should
Just as I was thinking
If mum would be looking for me on the street
A huge gust of wind came
And knocked me off my feet
But the kite kept flying
Higher and higher
And I felt myself
Begin to get lighter
As the kite lifted me up
And I couldn’t feel the ground
I called out for help
But no one was around
I was swept up
With the rain and leaves
And soon enough
I was above the trees
The kite kept going higher
And as I held on tight
I wondered
If I’d be home for dinner tonight
The wind carried me out of the park
And over my street
Looking down at the houses
Past my dangling feet
The kite rose
And into the clouds I went
Below me I knew
Was quite a descent
The kite kept rising
And I wish I’d known how to get down
When the fall was shorter
And when I could see the ground
But there was no other way
Then to just let go
And that’s what i did
As I yelled ‘Look out below!’
